Mango Lassi 🥭

Updated: Aug 6

With summer finally at our doorsteps, I'm beginning to reminisce on one of my favorite drinks I make 3 months of the year, and sometimes more when I'm craving it. Summertime is my favorite season (surprise surprise) and if you're wondering why, it's because mangoes are in season! Mangos are in my bloodstream, and if you are South Asian it's a given that you love mangoes (unless you meet the rare ones who hate the fruit aka my twin). A few months back I posted my mango ice cream recipe, and as I mentioned then, mangoes in the US aren't the same as the ones in Pakistan. If I happen to visit Pakistan during the summer months, I'm chugging down mango lassis like it's nobody's business. I once craved them so badly, that when I visited Pakistan in the winter months, my sweet aunt froze some mangoes from the summer and made mango lassi when I arrived. If that's not love and dedication, I don't know what is 🧡

I love Mango Lassis so much that I hunt them wherever I travel. I've had lassis worldwide, from LA to London, pictured to the left. The way people collect postcards, I fill out my punch cards with how many lassis I can drink!

Soooo how do I recreate a mango lassi you may ask? Well, similar to the mango ice cream, you can use pulp from fresh mangos or buy pulp, both will result in a delicious drink. Lassi is known to have milk and yogurt, however, I choose to add milk. The taste isn't different, but the consistency might be just a bit thicker if you add yogurt. The star of this lassi is the mango, it adds all the sweetness you need, so no need for any sugar. This concoction takes only a few ingredients and after a little mix in the blender, bada bing bada boom, you got yourself a drink!

Mango Lassi 🥭

Prep Time: 5 mins Blend time: 2-3 mins Serves 4

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups of milk

  • 1/2 cup of mango pulp, or 3/4 cup depending on if you want a stronger mango flavor

  • 1/2 cup ice cubes

Steps:

  1. Add milk, mango pulp, and ice cubes to the blender. Blend until you hear the shards of ice become smaller. Taste and add more pulp if need be.

  2. Pour out into any glass of choice, and refrigerate the rest for up to 2 days. Blend each time you want to drink.

  3. Bon Appetite!
