OK OK OK! These have become somewhat of a popular item amongst my friends, who all love to indulge in one or many Oreo balls, and I always am so excited when I bring these along. However, there is a little secret I have been carrying with me about it... it's only two ingredients! Yes, you read that right, all it takes is Oreos and Cream Cheese. It is truly as simple as that. I have made these balls (hehe) a dozen times, and I swear people love them more.
What I love about this dessert is how versatile it is year-round. I have made this for Halloween (to pair with my Violet costume from Willy Wonka) to birthdays, graduations, and holidays (adding some sprinkles on top). You can dip the Oreo balls in White Chocolate or Dark chocolate, whatever you do, people will rave over it! My favorite melting chocolate is Ghiradelli dark chocolate melting wafers, which can be found at your local grocery store.
Usually, after I have made and shaped the Oreo Balls, I place them in a mini cupcake liner. You can also add cake pop sticks to the top to make it easier to eat. However you decide to decorate and present these, I promise, nay, GUARANTEE you and others you share this won't shut up about how delicious they are.
Oreo balls
Prep time: 30 mins Freeze time: 1 hour Decorating time: 3o mins
Ingredients:
1 package (36 cookies) of Oreos
8 oz cream cheese, room temp
Chocolate of choice in wafer or candy coating form
Cupcake Liners
Side Note: If you need more than 25-30 Oreo balls, double the recipe
Steps:
Two options here: 1) place Oreos in a large ziplock bag, then take a rolling pin and smash the Oreos until nearly fine cookie crumbs, or 2) add Oreos to a food processor and pulse until it's in fine cookie crumbs.
Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, using the flat beater or whisk attachment, add cream cheese and mix until smooth. Use a spatula or your hands and add the crushed to fine cookie crumbs to the bowl and mix well.
Take a tray and place parchment or wax paper on top. I began rolling the mixture into small Oreo balls. Now here is where you can decide how small or large you want them to be. Place the Oreo ball onto the tray.
Once completed, place the tray in the freezer for an hour, nothing less.
About 5 mins before you remove the Oreo balls from the freezer, began by melting your chocolate and prepping your station with the cupcake liners and other decorations of your choice. Melt chocolate in the microwave in 15-sec intervals (microwaving chocolate is a preference, it's up to you if you want to do stovetop or microwave).
Remove Oreo balls from the freezer, then take a large skewer or two forks and begin dipping the Oreo balls into the chocolate, tap gently off for excess, then immediately place on the liner. At this point, you are racing against the clock because the chocolate will begin hardening quickly.
Add sprinkles or other decor as you wish to the Oreo balls. Let cool by placing the finished tray of dipped Oreo balls back in the fridge. Keep them chilled for an hour, and then serve!
If any Oreo balls miraculously remained, place them in a container and be sure to consume them within 3 days!
Bon Appetit!
